Walking and walking the first weekend

Unfortunately, the public bus system in San Juan is not the best. Twice we have waited over an hour for buses. Saturday we decided to go to the convention center for an arts and craft show. After waiting for almost 1 1/2 hours our bus finally arrived and it took 15 minutes to get the center.  After browsing, eating lunch and listening to some very loud Puerto Rican music we decided to head into old San Juan. Do we take a bus or walk? We decided it would be easier to walk the 3 plus miles then waiting an hour for the bus. As usual the walk was an adventure through areas under reconstruction and beautiful parks. We came across the new pier area which was having an event so we stopped for a beer and rest.

Once we entered Old San Juan we headed to Marshals for some Elenita shopping while I found a seat to rest on. This little adventure only took about 30 minutes. From here we walked a bit and then decided to have a drink and a snack at a recommended restaurant.  By the time we were done we were tired and ready to head back to Condado and our condo. This time we needed to take the bus so we walked to the bus station and again sat for about an hour. While waiting, two guys from Chicago (original from Mexico) sat next to us and we started taking. Then a female friend of theirs showed up and suggested we all take a taxi back and split the fare. This ended up being a great idea and only cost $3 per person.

Sunday was a simple day of rest. We did a short walk looking for a dessert place we had read about. Once we arrived we ordered our dessert and Puerto Rican coffee without sugar. Big mistake, when drinking Puerto Rican or Cuban coffee you always need sugar. After we decided to take a look at a restaurant we had read about called Mangos. It was funny as we just walked in the sky's opened up so we decided to stay for a appetizer and a drink. The Ceviche  was different then what we are use to but very good. We will return for dinner soon.

Monday morning we went for a beach walk to visit our juice vendor in ocean park.

Tuesday, December 10 we went for our morning walk through our neighborhood and along the lagoon trail.

We decided to check out a different neighborhood called Miramar.

Here we discovered the cinema and a wonderful deli. Once we get our car we will be back. We then headed home. After we returned I checked my pedometer and we walked almost 6 miles.  Time to rest and have a beer.
